What is a treated diamond?
A treated diamond undergoes processes to enhance its appearance. Common treatments include clarity enhancement, HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature), laser drilling, and color enhancement. These methods improve the diamond's clarity and color, making them more visually appealing.
Enhanced or treated diamonds are natural diamonds as they are earth-mined diamonds as opposed to lab grown or synthetic diamonds.
Types of Diamond Treatments
-
Clarity Enhancement: Techniques like filling fractures with resin to improve clarity. Learn more.
-
HPHT: High Pressure High Temperature treatment alters color usually using very light champagne colored diamonds of exceptionally high clarity to make a colorless diamond.
-
Laser Drilling: Removes inclusions by drilling tiny holes.
- Color Enhancement: Processes to change or improve color. This technique is similar to the HPHT method, however the chemical composition of the diamond will determine the fancy color (usually yellow, blue, green and pink).
